Enter Exotica

Versus Movie #80. Here's a classic flick from back in the day. I love Mia Kirshner. She's always playing the part of a seductress in movies. Ever notice that? I like that. This movie, "Exotica", was an underground classic about obsession and desires. It goes into a genre of its own in a way with some flashbacks and mystery parts. You get drawn into wondering why the people act the way they do, what makes them tick. You share the obsession without being a weirdo yourself. You get a chance to enter and observe a world that typical everyday people don't usually see. The main character is obviously the schoolgirl stripper. I think we all like the sound of that. Then there's the guy that announces the dancers that makes it look like an art form like some erotic dance theater. It has the same vibe as "Pump Up The Volume" but in a totally different way. The music sets the mood. It really does have a unique look and feel to it. So many people never go with their desires or explore them so it's interesting to delve into this underbelly world and try to get into their heads. It borders on bizarre at points, like a noir film, with some murder mystery sub plot that isn't really related to the main plot. Lose your guilt and take a walk on the dark side for a bit.
