What Happens After Dark

After Dark Horrorfest 4 is here kids! All the kids shout Yay! I bet there's some real gems in this one. I still remember a few from the last horrorfest and those were really cool. They say things like these sort of collections are bringing back American horror. Well they also say that about Dimension Extreme but it is true that these horrorfests like this and Ghosthouse among others are really churning them out. They may not be in the theaters but that doesn't mean they aren't good. It's funny but I used to think that only mainstream horror was the best but now I have a new outlook on things. Isn't it funny when straight to video movies rival those in the theater? That's the way it should be. I say if a movie does good enough as a video store only movie then it should earn the right to be in the theater. This is a new age where mainstream is not the only way to see a well made movie. Of course theater movies do set the bar though. Movies like "Spiral" for instance are made quite well and sometimes you wonder why you never saw the movie in a theater. Still to compete with theater caliber movies you have to come up with something like "Hellraiser", oh wait... that was never in the theater! Wow, that really makes you think now doesn't it? Or maybe it was, who knows. I do remember "Nightmare On Elm Street 5" being in the theater. How about "Return To Sleepaway Camp"? That may not have been in the theater but it could be. And it's like cult legend by now. Truth is the underground is a real stomping ground now to be reckoned with. Although the theater does admittedly carry the high budget horror movies. That's about the only real difference.
