Going back in time for this one. Back in 1998, which I can hardly even remember, this movie "Ronin" came out. I f**king loved this movie! O.k. maybe I need to calm down, lol. No, but really, this movie was so different. It was one of those left field action movies that just came out of nowhere and took you by surprise. The premise is that the definition of ronin are samurai without a master. And in this movie we had hired guns from very different agencies and walks of life all in one group. They were gathered for one specific reason though, to find and protect some precious cargo. A mysterious case, which the contents of never gets divulged. That's part of what makes the movie so great in my opinion. That case begs you to wonder what's in it but you never find out. Classic! The ex-KGB operatives that have the case want it just as badly but the ronin are a tough band of rogue warriors. Robert De Niro was good in this, as far as action is concerned. Jean Reno was a good choice too. I noticed some other guys in there as well. Sometimes you don't want to give away everything in a story to make it work. The one thing I disagree with is how vehemently an assassin will fight without knowing the cause. If I'm going to fight for my life and slay others it better be for a cause I am aware of. You get the feeling the case was very sensitive material that could bring down a government. This is truly one of the great action classics. They don't use swords but they are ronin. Get yer leather jackets and beanies. I prefer skullcaps but beanies work. This film doesn't seem outdated at all.
