"Retroactive" was a really slick sci-fi movie that may not have got much attention but it was definitely a good movie. The newer horror movie "Reeker" vaguely seems inspired by this one, even though Retroactive isn't horror. It's full on sci-fi time travel adventure. I love this kind of stuff and you never see enough of it. The 80's were when all these kind of movies came out, along with the popular cyberpunk movement we all know of. There was a trend of time travel adventures once, some well known and others not so well known. This movie is cool for being so realistic. The experiment was believable. The machinery was believable. The reactor that is. The base was well constructed. The time lines changing each time was great. It kept getting worse and worse like the police negotiator woman said. It's interesting to see what she would have done differently if given another chance, ironically, just like she described her book for motivational therapy. Not many people would take that seriously but I understand what she was thinking now. Interesting that she wrote that book, coming from a hostage negotiator. What made her think this way? A hostage situation gone bad. The hostage got killed. The killer in this movie was no doubt James Belushi. He was fantastic as the Elvis wanna be psycho. What I found interesting was how the demands put on the machine at the end made it want to overload and explode. Was that realistic? Not sure. Maybe if you push a reactor too far beyond its capacity I suppose. Like an atom smasher. The process could create an explosion if done wrong. By the end this movie does make you think while giving you a good dose of action.
