This is a good, super creepy movie here. "The Loved Ones" from Australia. I think the name refers to the daughter and dad that are basically "not" the loved ones. I could be wrong. Just my two cents. Now the movie is a nice break from teen slashers that don't go too far. You know what I mean, with all the PG-13 rated horror movies out now. This is obviously to siphon money out of the younger generation and cash in. R-rated horror is still viable and necessary in this day and age. The main guy is not an ugly man so he has admirers. One of them being this weird girl that later finds him dreamy. This guy of course has a girlfriend but that doesn't change her view. She's very socially withdrawn and she kinda has a maniacal look in her eyes. People can get so messed up psychologically in many different ways and this of course allows us to come up with many horror avenues. She's basically a stalker but harmless at this point. She's one of those too far gone sociopaths that go unnoticed by people because nobody found her guilty of anything. The kicker is when she abducts this guy and takes him to her dad's house where they tie him to a chair. They proceed to torture him and do really disturbing rituals, like pretending they're at a school dance. The dad must have been the screwed up one and thus screwed up his daughter just as well. That is usually how it happens. And, as I've said time and time before, I love it when they take things in a totally different direction in the second half. You think that's the extent of their perversion but no! They have zombies in the basement underneath the kitchen. Hand made ones! They literally would drill holes in victims and pour scolding hot water into the hole to boil the brain. This created a zombie for the most part. How sick is that? This is impressive for an Australian horror outing since most from there haven't been the most grisly. Very unique twist on the zombie idea and it does make you think of other sick movies like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", despite there being no chainsaws. The messed up family and crazies locked away in darkness make it close enough. I was highly impressed with this one and recommend it. She's messed up!
