Successor To The Thing

Practical EFX are back in full force. You won't believe how good a monster movie can be.

Triumvir Foul Are Here

A grimy, dirty death metal sound is here with some wickedly interlaced chaos structures.

Zenescope Comics Rule

It's about time more attention was given to the female form. Sexy takes over action horror.

Shadows Of The Damned

The PS4 is awesome but this PS3 game is epic. It could make one insane horror arcade game.

Death Machine Kills

Death Machine is among the few perfect cyberpunk horror movie examples. Awesome flick.

Wayward Pines Creeps

Great show that redefines how a cyberpunk horror TV show can creep under your skin.

Queens Of Your Desire

There's a comic revolution happening quietly for some time now. Sexy is the new wave of the future. I say it's about time more attention was given to the beauty of the female form, even if they are the ideals of men. No man needs ideals necessarily, but it sure is fun. I like seeing the maidens in distress in scantily clad outfits or evil villains in skimpy, come hither sweet nothings. They are busty but they're not really exaggerated to insane proportions. I think they look great and the stories are pretty sweet too. Top notch action horror for ya.

Zenescope is a new movement taking place that redefines what comics can be. This goes way beyond the days of pin-ups in magazines. In a way we can live out our fantasies through these comics taking almost every fantasy scenario you can think of. They effectively blend horror, action, and drama with sexy babes wearing next to nothing. The gore is more intense, the babes are more buxom, the action is off the wall, you get the idea. Everything is much more than comics used to be. I think it's a great idea since not everybody feels inhibited. In much the way Manga in Japan is a release for fantasies so can this style of comic storytelling. And they're popular as hell too. People are buying them up for their collectable nature, being released in limited runs of several thousand. You know people are going to want them knowing there aren't enough to go around and I would rather buy a real version of a Zenescope comic than a digital one any day. The limited run idea is a fairly new concept as well. Think of them like 1 season shows, which are the rage now days. A lot of comics are well done and collectable but let's face it, sexy babes do sell comics. And Zenescope does sell. I had an idea for movies once, similar to this, with more gnarly gore, more sexy babes, more everything. The price on the comics is also more than the typical comic but they are worth it especially if they're limited. They cost about twice as much as the typical comic, but dollar bin comics cost about a sixth the amount. In the end I would say they're worth it. They're pushing the envelope and I like that a lot.

Hell From The Underground

Triumvir Foul can best be described as a very dirty, filthy, raw death metal sound. It's also a very thick, structured, hellish chaos that contains hidden guitar work and even some insane solos that never turn cheesy. I can say for some reason this is even original; maybe because it's very mean and rough around the edges. It's not some over produced studio death metal, although there's nothing wrong with that. These guys deserve street cred for staying true to slimy crypt style death metal. It's fast, evil, underground sounding hell.

The underground death metal/black metal scene bands sound a lot different than mainstream death metal. The idea of 'mainstream death metal' is kind of ironic in ways because the scene is an alternative to what's on the radio obviously. What I like about underground bands like this one is they sound more evil, more dark, more decrepit, and more foreboding. People forget what real death metal sounds like when they come out with these record labels for death metal now. I mean I like bands on bigger labels too but in a way everything originates in the underground first. The mainstream will get ideas from the underground, that's how it works. So you want the real thing then you have to look for unknown bands that play the real shit. "Shared consciousness of anxiety, depravity, melancholy, and violence through arcane offerings" is the description on their bandcamp page. They cover the subject matter that others don't. Too many bands now days are all about senseless torture, killing, etc. while this band covers uncomfortable topics. "A vessel for hedonism, corruption, and cabalisticism" it reads on towards the bottom of the bandcamp page, "The embodiment of one's depravity and weakness expressed through worship of the three serpents. As an entity of spiraling spiritual violence". Very interesting stuff actually. I like their angle with their lyrics and image a lot. It conveys images of tombs, crypts, old gods and demons, spiritual degradation, and the inner struggles we all face from time to time. "The principles of disgust, hatred, and anxiety" it goes on. "Emanations of lust and decay" are some of the lyrics. I find their whole persona to entice me more than the typical death metal band offering nothing but gore lyrics. It's a cool combination of death/black metal that makes me think about my own weaknesses, corruptions, sadness, and anxieties. Not often do death/black metal bands make you think.

The Harbinger Of Death

Harbinger Down is one of those movies that really restores your faith in film makers because it's easy to want to make a movie for the masses. This movie is for the die hard body horror fans and fans of movies like The Thing. They purposefully made this movie without CGI to get away from all the cheap digital EFX plaguing low budget horror movies. The result is breath taking and I'm glad Lance Henriksen was a part of it. This monster is all practical EFX and it looks great. Watch it dudes! You won't find another movie like this one anywhere.

There are a lot of critics out there but I loved this movie personally. Some people think that it needed work but I think they're being too critical. It restores our faith in seeing new movies in the tradition of The Thing. The new movie titled 'The Thing', the prequel, was a mix of CGI and practical EFX to pay homage to the original, which was all practical EFX. This movie is all practical EFX as well so while there may be critics I think this is quite the accomplishment when you see the cool mutant monstrosities, stealing DNA from different people and things. The story was nicely done with the over zealous college professor trying to stake claim on the discovery of a Russian cosmonaut. The EFX were well appreciated by me since I get tired of the cheap CGI in so many movies trying to cut corners. Cheap CGI looks even worse than any practical EFX and you know it when you see it. This monster, unlike The Thing, just kept growing and growing with each person it absorbed, and that sets it apart from other movies of the same ilk. The Blob remake starred a monster that kept growing as well so you can think of this movie as a mix of The Thing and The Blob on an icebreaker vessel looking for the source of a distress signal. To make this movie with a digital monster just wouldn't look the same at all so I take no stock in what critics may say. The question is what is it? The Blob was an oversized bacteria. The Thing was an alien shapeshifter. This monstrous entity is somehow similar to both and yet different. It's the bastard child of both. The claustrophobic surroundings add to the fear of being stuck with that thing on board. There's really nowhere to run when you're surrounded by icy waters on all sides so it's either kill or be killed. That would scare the living hell out of me going up against that thing in battle.
